Tom Whittaker rocked conventional wisdom when, as an amputee, he created a worlds first by summiting Mt. Everest in May of 1998.
Tom did a lot more than climb the mountain though. He also organized, fund-raised and led the expedition. All of which was captured in CBSs one hour documentary film, "Footprint on Everest", which won the Telly Award for best adventure documentary for 1998.
In mountaineering there are few achievements that rival Mt. Everest. One of them is the "Seven Summits". Why? Because Everest is one of the seven!
There are seven mountains on earth holding the distinction of being the highest on each continent. Tom Whittaker will be the first amputee to climb all seven of these peaks.
Beginning January of 2000, Whittaker has been leading climbing expeditions to scale the remaining mountains he must climb.
Each of those expeditions will focus on a unique team of climbers who Tom will lead on journeys of adventure and self discovery.
The coverage and content arising from the expeditions will document the struggle these individuals undertake as they conquer their fears and self doubt by climbing these mountains:
- Aconcagua, South America
- Elburus, Europe
- Kilimanjaro, Africa
- Kosioska, Australia
- McKinley, North America
- Vinson, Antarctica
Opportunities exist for sponsorship and media partners within these expeditions. For details see Sponsorship and Licensing Opportunities.
